Google Reader

I keep reading on various blogs that Google Reader is closing down. I do have Google Reader, but I dont use it to read my blogs, I just go to my Blogger dashboard and there they all are (all the ones I have "followed") in reverse chronological order, i.e. newest first, so I just scroll down until the last one I've read and move upwards from there. So, what I'm saying is that for me, personally, Google Reader closing down wont make a difference to my reading habits. But, and this is a big BUT, how many of you out there read my blog on Google Reader, and will you miss me when it closes? Did I ought to do what a lot of others are doing, and register with Bloglovin'?

Please, please if you read this, comment below and let me know, I would hate to lose any of my readers, I value you all, even those of you who aren't actual "followers".

Happy Monday x x

  1. Do you know Joy, I've been thinking exactly like you. I've never gone into Google Reader, in fact I didn't even know what it was. I read straight from the dashboard. I wonder why people have felt the need to read in Google Reader in the first place. But like you don't want to lose my followers. Also, where did Bloglovin come from? and wonder if they are connected to Blogspot/Google. I wonder if this is a kind of blogger's panic kicking in. Do you think we should follow suit or just stay put?

  3. My thoughts exactly. I never use Google Reader, but it seems many people do. I may register with bloglovin' but not just yet. I'll wait and see what happens after Google Reader stops existing.

  5. Heather if you cant find the dashboard, where do you go when you want to write a post? I have the dashboard bookmarked, and go there to write as well as read.

  6. I wasn't using a reader but since all this has started I have gone with bloglovin, but I will probably use a bit of both, depending where I am on the computer.

  7. This is puzzling me too. I only ever read blogs from my dashboard and follow with Google Friend Connect. I don't think you need to have your blog on bloglovin to enable others to follow you through bloglovin, if that makes sense!
I am going to wait and see what happens before changing anything.

  8. I use bloglines.com - it notifies me whenever I have a new post to read - and is super easy to use. Every single post that I've seen about switching to Bloglovin ends in - what a pain. That isn't very encouraging. I don't click on "follow" on blogs - but I do add the ones I want to read to my bloglines list - so I never show as a follower - though I am.

I think it might be best to use what is easiest for you - and what you have been doing sounds good. Personally I think there is some financial benefit to Bloglovin from Google - or the other way around, and that is why it is being pushed - so I will just continue the way I have been.

  9. I have no idea about this bloglovin or anything else, I just go by my blog list on my blog and read from there. Too confusing for me. xx

  11. Joy

I have just added the "follow with Bloglovin" button onto my blog to enable people to choose how they want to follow. I also have the follow by email and google connect on there too. Bloglovin should already have your blog listed and if people specifically search for it they can follow it without you having to do anything (you already have 12 followers on there).

  12. If your followers blog through blogger then apparently they are not affected. I think to access Bloglovin you may need a Facebook account. I'm a bit confused because the information that I have seems to indicate that it all should have happened by now...

  13. Bloglovin is from Scandinavia - just another app to view blogs. You don't need a facebook account - just google Bloglovin and create an account.

  14. Bloglovin is only a program that tells you when the blogs you follow have a new post. You can follow blogs through bloglovin (or any reader program) by putting them in and "saying" that you want to follow them. No facebook required. You also don't need to be on bloglovin to be followed by somone else, you just need to have a blog...
