186/365 Bromham

On a Thursday I usually go down to the market in Devizes, and I always buy my fruit and vegetables from a stall in the indoor market, which is operated by Bromham Farms, where they sell their own produce grown and harvested around the village of Bromham. Today Rog and I took a walk along the lanes around Bromham, it was quite an overcast morning, and several of the photos I took didn't come out too well, but I saw some leeks, a lion, and Oliver's Castle (called that because Oliver Cromwell's men, although not him personally) fought the Battle of Roundway from there.

185/365 Canal Walk

As Rog is the only bloke in his team at work that doesn't have school age children he generally tends to be the one who is on call for most of the time during the school holiday periods, which he has been for most of the last week and over the weekend. Being on call is only a slight inconvenience, it just means we cant really stray further than about 20 minutes away from his computer, so no hill climbs this weekend, just a gentle stroll along the canal towpath in the autumn sunshine.

184/365 Joy's knits

You'll all know by now that I am patiently awaiting the birth of my granddaughter and the trip to Surrey to help out the new parents. As I dont yet know when I'm going, and also dont know when I'll be coming back, I've just put my shops in "holiday" mode so no-one can buy from them while I'm away. But when I do get back I'll be listing some more of my knits, so here is a sneak preview.
All these items will be sold in aid of WAAA, I want only to recover my material and postage costs so I can buy new materials and knit more things. If you like any of them please feel free to make me an offer (I can only say yes or no, depending on whether or not the contribution to WAAA is enough!)

First is a crocheted knee blanket, approx measurements 1.2m x 1.2m, would make an ideal Christmas gift for your gran, Mum, aunt, sister or the old lady down the road.




Or perhaps they would prefer these ladies gloves, the cuff is a very dark green, the hands are white, pastel blue, green and yellow acrylic double knit, very warm and soft to the touch.




How much fun is this pink striped tank top? It's approx. size 16/18, again acrylic yarns, height 63cm, chest 125cm. I dont suppose your teenage daughter would be seen dead in it, but are you daring enough to wear it yourself?

182/365 Just read in the local paper . . .

. . . that due to the massive cuts in police funding, when the current contract expires in 2014 the Wiltshire Air Ambulance will be "stand alone" and will therefore require an extra £1 million per year to keep flying. Come along girls and boys, lets have your cartridges for recycling, and any other fundraising ideas you can come up with, or we'll lose an extremely valuable resource which saves lives.

181/365 Thanks

As we near the end of my first month of fundraising for WAAA, I just want to say a big thanks to all who have contributed so far. My Phoenix turnover this month is £217.40 so I have paid £21.74 through my Just Giving page, Carol has also donated £2.00 through Just Giving which is increased by 25% because of the Gift Aid scheme (income tax reclaimed), and I currently have a total of £3.10 (thanks Rachael) in my Cash for Cartridges account (they hold on to that until we reach £25.00, then they pass a cheque over to me made out to WAAA), so thanks all, onwards and upwards.

180/365 Think pink

I'm getting so excited about the imminent arrival of my very first granddaughter, due on 31st October. I have four sons and two grandsons, so pink is a colour that has never figured very highly in my life until now. 179/365 Day one

Yesterday the waist clip burst on the trousers I was wearing. First instinct was to go online to buy some new ones. But as Rog is looking to retire within the next couple of years we are going to have to cut down on spending (we are actually already trying to alter our spending habits), so instead I have decided that, as I have lots of really nice trousers in my wardrobe which appear to have shrunk over the last couple of years, the best thing would be for me to shrink too.
Today is the first day of a new diet and fitness regime.
I am currently 73 kilos, which, while not grossly overweight, is far more than the 60 kilos I weighed 10 years ago. I am aiming to get back to 60 kilos over the next 13 weeks, at a rate of 1 kilo per week. I'm also going to donate £2.00 per kilo lost to the WAAA, if anyone else would like to sponsor me for as much as you like, any sponsor money will also go directly to WAAA.
I'll be posting my weight each week on a wednesday (an extra day for the first week!)

178/365 Another day, another hill climb

What a beautiful day it has been here in the wonderful Wiltshire countryside. Cold with a sharp frost first thing, but sunny from the word go.



Rog had a days leave booked, and after a bit of shelf erecting we decided it was far too nice to stay indoors, so we took to the hills, this is Etchilhampton Hill looking up.




And the view from the top, looking across to the Marlborough Hills, we can see where we were yesterday.

A footpath goes across the field, but thankfully, we turn left here, and down a track to find the car.




We have lots of rain forecast for tomorrow, so wont be doing another hill walk, but how lucky to have such lovely weather at the end of October, hope its nice wherever you are, especially if you have children on half term hols.

177/365 Another hill climb

We were hoping to go to Bristol today to see Alex, but for various reasons which I needn't go into, we had a change of plan.
So instead we drove out to Cannings Cross for a walk, but had a bit of a traffic hold-up on the way. Somehow or other this goose had found himself on the road, and had a police escort to divert him back to the canal.

173/365 Sunday morning on Dartmoor

Actually the title is a bit of a fib, because the above picture is at Lopwell Dam, very close to Dartmoor, but taken on Saturday afternoon, I meant to include it yesterday. There is a ford across the river (which is tidal) and that's why it looks as if these people are walking on water.
All other shots were taken on Dartmoor on Sunday morning.
