10 on the 10th

I recently found this here, organised by "Rebekah at a bit of Sunshine" and decided to join in. Basically you take 10 photos on the 10th day of the month, one every hour, roughly on the hour, to catalogue your day. I found it yesterday morning, and only managed 9, but I didn't think 9 on the 11th would be a very good title. So here goes.

8am  A torrential downpour, quite a normal occurrence for this summer though

9am  Time for tea and biscuits

10am A walk down to town for a quick bit of shopping

11am Shortening a pair of trousers

12 noon  The suncatcher on my studio window, and the sun is actually shining now

1pm Pasty for lunch 

(one between the two of us, and shop-bought rather than homemade)

2pm Cutting the very small patch of grass at the front of the house

(him, not me!)

3pm  Taking down an evergreen tree that has grown too big for its boots

4pm Time for a gin and tonic

I've added the Ten on Ten link to my sidebar, now I've taught myself how to do that, I might add some other stuff too, you never know!

More progress this week

The rather stark blind in the dining room was taken down, a batten fitted for a curtain rail, and then curtains were hung. 

As there was no blind at the kitchen window, having been removed by the sellers, the blind from the dining room was put up there. 

Rog made this row of coat-hooks for the entrance hall, we'll stain and finish the wood when we decorate the hall - but probably not until next year.

Eileen's rose

Well, in fact, its my rose now :-)

You may remember that last month I met up with my blogging friend Eileen (In my Playroom), who lives only a few miles away. We had lunch together (you can read about it here) and exchanged gifts. Eileen gave me a rose plant, which I repotted and stood outside the conservatory. It has now bloomed, and is very attractive, thank you so much Eileen.

Looking forward to getting together again before too long.

Bertha . . .

. . . arrived here a couple of weeks ago, a gift from my lovely American friend Jane. Let me explain.

Jane is an author who has written a book, "Bertha-size your life", and in order to publicise the Kindle version she held a competition, it was a very easy competition, and I was lucky enough to be the first to answer a simple question. Jane then offered me a voucher to purchase the Kindle version, so I had to explain that I neither had, nor wished to have, a Kindle - call me old-fashioned if you like, but I'm a stationery freak and a book hoarder, I simply cant imagine curling up in bed with a good piece of plastic to read!

So, instead, Jane very kindly sent me the paper-back version, signed, I might add, which of course means it will now be exceedingly valuable when Jane becomes world famous.

"Bertha-size your life" is a fun book, aimed at those of us of a certain age who are now empty-nesters, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm not a book reviewer as such, so please click here to read a review.

P.S. Since I read it I have thrown away my grey trainers, and I now wear red and white beach shoes instead!
