All Cannings

We try to get out and about as often as possible to enjoy the beautiful countryside that we live in. Yesterday we went to the village of All Cannings, in Pewsey Vale. We parked the car by the small village green, and were passed by what Rog described as a stampede of horses.

A walk along the High Street brought us to our first port of call, The Kings Arms, a pub with one of the best landlords in the area.

After enjoying some tip top condition beer, Wadworths Horizon, a lovely pale bitter, we parked at the top end of the village to eat our sarnies. Not far from the ever present Kennet and Avon Canal, the land here is fairly low lying so the bridge over the canal is pretty high. If you click on the picture to enlarge you'll also see the Alton Barnes White Horse on the hillside behind.

Also not far from Salisbury Plain, we are not surprised to hear first and then see a Chinook

Totally unfazed by the noise, this horse just carried on grazing

As did the llamas in the next field

I did a double take on the way back home, yes this is exactly what it looks like, a field of rape in flower - at the end of October!!!

Love your photos as always. You always manage to fit in a pub somewhere Joy. Maybe you should do a book on the best pubs in Wiltshire. We've got fields of rape re flowering too and my mahonias have bloomed yet again - poor old plants don't know what is going on.
