the decision

he started to think about it just after christmas.
he really didn't know what to do! would his parents be upset? should he just carry on?
the worry of it was making him feel ill - that and the cold weather, the drafty window in his flat which made his room feel like an icebox, the workload, the debt.
eventually he thought maybe the best thing would be to talk to his parents. they were sympathetic, they told him it was his decision to make, but that any decision was better than no decision, to go away and think about it for a week or so.
he thought about it long and hard for about 3 days, then he went back to his parents. he told them he had made up his mind, and hoped they would support his decision. after 18 months of a 3 year course he was going to leave university, and hoped they wouldn't be upset.
his parents told him the most important thing for them above all else was his happiness.
we love you, alex.

You all did and said the right thing by the sounds of it. You have a loving, thoughtful, sensitive son and he has kind, supportive, loving parents.
Life takes us all off in various directions. I'm sure he will have learnt a great deal from the coursework that he has done, from the life experience and that it will all be there in reserve, for future use.
So what has got planned?

thanks for your kind comments rachael, he is resting with us until after easter, then a spot of job hunting. he'll take any job he can find to start with as he doesn't really know what he wants to do just yet.

you know, its so hard being of a certain age... uni age. People have expectations that you will do something and be someway when really all youre trying to be is yourself, only youre not quite sure what that is yet either. People find themselves at different ages and stages... and being lost is sometimes the only way. Not that he is lost Joy I dont mean that! :) just unsure of himself.

I think he was almost lost, but is starting to find himself again now. it was he who wanted to go to uni in the first place, no pressure from us, but started to realize it wasn't what he wanted after all.
trying all sorts of styles to see what works and what doesn't. reading other people's blogs it all seems to be about "I", so thought I'd try a different angle.

My daughter went to uni late did her foundation then three years she then decided to do a year teachers training then two years teaching - this week she has finished her job it was making her ill and now has a job with less money but also less stress. At first she thought she had let us and herself down but in hindsight which is a wonderful thing she was never going to be able to handle the stress of teaching or high power job life so now she has a job with also gives her a car, set hours and no stress. The Lord is good and he showed her the way forward. Your son at least decided that this was not for him, he did not drit running up hugh fees (as my daughter did and is now paying off). I wish him well in whateve he chooses to do but I am sure he will find his feet eventually.
